Lot number traceability

Always to be in the know what materials came from which source and into what product they have been used for is becoming, in the face of compulsory regulations and the growing demand of customers, a permanent challenge for the production. With the BDE ENGINEERING solution lot numbers or goods can be traced, even after use, right down the complete chain of production.

Hereby can the lot number traceability be of assistance in the case of product recalls due to quality problems. It has also a very high meaning in the areas of food production, pharmaceutical products and vehicle manufacture.

A bit of information about lot traceability in the food production industry:
The basis is the EU regulation 178/02 (especially the articles 18 and 19) which describes the necessity for all those who find themselves to be part of a delivery chain, that they are responsible for being able to account from where the goods originated and to whom the goods were delivered. This regulation was substantiated in 2005 and became German legislation and was written into the Life and Feedstuffs statute book.

In practice the tracing of lot numbers in the food industry can be carried out in two ways:

• De central: through the use of an inventory control or ERP system
• Central by use of a tracking database

It is meaningful to combine the two methods and to be able to trace both internally and externally in order to give out clear and quick statements about the origins of goods. Thus clarity from the farmer to the retailer or casually said: "from the pork to the fork"!
